GREEN BY NATURE
Our home is the Baltics – a region rich in forests and long coastlines – which is why we cherish our natural treasures and wish to preserve the beauty of our land. As a young and ambitious company, we can afford to be flexible and are proud of heading towards becoming as green as an airline possibly can. Decreased fuel consumption, quieter engines and improved flight efficiency and precision can have a global impact, and these are goals that we work towards every day. In 2020 we are taking a huge step towards minimizing our footprint, introducing the youngest in Europe one type jet fleet consisting solely of Airbus A220-300 – one of the world’s greenest commercial aircraft in the sky.

LOWER CO2 EMISSIONS
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time. Air travel connects people all over the world and is crucial to the global economy, but it does have an impact on the environment. However, airlines can make notable improvements. In fact, we are proud that through modernisation of the fleet and optimisation of landing procedures, we have been able to reduce the amount of carbon emissions released per passenger km flown by 33% compared to 2008.

THE GREENEST COMMERCIAL JET IN THE SKIES
We are modernising our fleet at great speed – as of 2020 airBaltic is using only Airbus A220-300 aircraft – one of the world’s greenest commercial aircraft in the skies. Compared to previous generation aircraft of similar size, the new planes feature a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions, 50% less NOx emissions, and a 4x smaller noise footprint. After the full switch to one type fleet of Airbus A220-300 we can proudly announce that we are the the greenest airline in Europe.

LESS PLASTIC
Single-use plastics are very important when it comes to serving passengers on board. Being acutely aware of plastic’s impact on the environment, we are implementing greener solutions as we speak. Starting with 2020, airBaltic has begun carrying out a new strategy regarding single-use plastics on board. Plastic items are gradually being replaced by nature-friendlier alternatives such as paper packaging, wooden cutlery, and biodegradable materials.

HOW TO TRAVEL GREENER
Everyone can be socially responsible and go greener, even when travelling. You can do your part, too, starting with your choice of airline to seemingly little things, like packing lighter, using an electronic ticket instead of a paper one, bringing your own reusable water bottle to fill up at the airport, and choosing environmentally friendlier ground transport.
